I’m not sure if it is useful, but I was attempting to get an overview of the current state of the art in brain-inspired robotic control, and I came across this summary paper: Frontiers | Brain-inspired biomimetic robot control: a review. Perhaps it will be of use.

Thank you very much for that link, makes for interesting reading. Good to see that others have explored these areas and my theories are not completely pie in the sky. Section 4.2 is particularly relevant as it is a hexapod platform I am working on. I shall follow up some of the references for ideas. As Jeff said at the end of the Community event, we don’t have to implement the system exactly as the brain but rather draw inspiration from the brain.
